One Sided Print
How to Dye backside of scarf:
To fix the white backside of a Print on Demand scarf, the best method is to use fabric spray dye or highly diluted fabric paint to match or complement the front design. Because scarves drape around the neck, you must use techniques that keep the fabric soft rather than stiff.
Why the Back is White
Most Print on Demand scarves are made of polyester or chiffon and printed using sublimation. In this process, heat presses dye into only one side of the fabric, leaving the backside blank and white.
Best Coloring Methods for Scarves
Fabric Spray Dye (Best for Softness): Using a dedicated fabric spray dye like Tulip ColorShot Fabric Spray or Marabu Fashion Spray adds vibrant color without making the polyester stiff or scratchy.
Diluted Acrylic with Fabric Medium: If you already have acrylic paint, mix it with a 2-to-1 ratio of fabric medium (like Liquitex Fabric Medium or GAC 900) and dilute it with water in a spray bottle. The medium chemically binds the paint to the synthetic fibers while maintaining the scarf's natural drape.
Step-by-Step Fix
Protect the Front: Lay the scarf flat with the printed side facing down. Place it on a clean piece of plastic or cardboard so the color doesn't bleed through to your work surface.
Mist the Backside: Hold your spray bottle 6 to 12 inches away from the scarf. Spray a light, even mist across the entire white backside.
Tip: Choose a dark heather grey, charcoal, or a dominant color from the front print to make the crossover look intentional.
Blot the Excess: Immediately after spraying, use a clean paper towel or micro-fiber cloth to gently blot the scarf. This removes excess moisture and prevents the dye from pooling or soaking through to damage the front design.
Heat Set: Once the scarf is completely air-dried, heat-set the backside using a household iron on a low-to-medium setting (appropriate for polyester/chiffon). Always place a piece of parchment paper or a pressing cloth between the iron and the scarf to protect the synthetic fibers from melting.
